Kidspace Opens October 29th with Free Open House; come try it out for FREE!

Kidspace is opening for the 2011/2012 season on October 29, 2011. We will be having an open house that day. For those of you who don't know about Kidspace, its a great place for kids (ages 0-5 yrs) in these colder months. Kidspace is located in the Payson Park church at 365 Belmont Street in Belmont, MA and is open from October 29th through April. The space is a large playarea on one side with a crawling space for babies, trains, trucks, dolls, kitchen area and dress up area. Adjacent to that is a large gym with riding toys and climbing structures. It’s a great place to take kids to play during the cold winter months.

The membership fees are $50 for unlimited visits during the season for the entire family (or if you don't join, its $10/visit). To keep fees low, Kidspace operates as a cooperative and is completely volunteer run. Each family does three easy 1 1/2 hour shifts per season. The shifts involve sitting at the front desk and can be done while your child plays. October 29th is FREE so come and try it out!

The hours for the 2011/2012 Season are:

Mon, Tue, Wed 2:00-6:30pm

Thurs 4:30-7:30pm

Friday 5-8pm

Saturday 9-1pm

Sunday 2-5pm (2nd and 4th Sundays of each month)

Registration is open on the website (join!) and this year, you can pay your membership dues online with PayPal.

Look forward to seeing you there!!!

There will also be a Halloween Party on October 30th for members from 2pm-4pm. See our flyer.

And please help us spread the word!

Shift Volunteers

The volunteer sign up for shifts this year has been great so far. We have been fully open at all times. If you haven't done your shifts yet please sign up. If you are new and want to volunteer with an experienced person please feel free to email volunteer@belmontkidspace.org and we will match you up. If you or your child are sick (and we understand this happens) and can?t volunteer after you have signed up, there are instructions on the website. Kathy Ferraro is overseeing the volunteer initiative and you can contact her through the email address above if you have any questions. She is also planning on doing a training session one of the next two Thurs nights (1/20 or 1/27). We will email the date over the next day or so and also post a sign on the bulletin board.

Kidspace Management

We are looking for one or two others that want to get involved with the management for the remainder of this season and next season. It involves 4 meetings per year and being involved in at least one sub committee (marketing, events, cleaning etc). If you are interested in this, please contact Dan Cottam at cottamcpa@gmail.com.

Special Events at Kidspace

Kidspace is a great community and there was a lot of feedback on last year's survey about people wanting more special events. We discussed this during our recent organizing meeting and at lot of great ideas came up. We thought we'd try to schedule one event a month to start. The first event will be Pizza, Pajamas and a Movie and will take place on Friday night January 21st during the evening Kidspace hours. More details to follow in a separate announcement. During February we thought we?d do the annual Toy Exchange. We were going to try to keep the mechanics simple this year and we are looking for one or two people to lead this event. If you are interested, contact Jeanne Caldwell at jcaldwel@aew.com. If you have other ideas for events or you have a talent you'd like to share with the kids at an event, please contact Jeanne. We are also looking for people who want to join the events committee.

Magazine Exchange

Thanks to one of our members, Diane Renn, we now have a magazine exchange set up at Kidspace on the wall behind the long tables. Please feel free to bring recent issues of magazines that you are done reading. Please feel free to use the magazines while at Kidspace or take them home for your reading pleasure. As always, please feel free to email Kidspace if you have ideas or suggestions.

Happy Playing!
